It’s that time of year. Holidays are right around the corner; we’ll have lots of additional lights, extension cords, and all types of things plugged into our outlets. The frigid temperatures also tend to bring out space heaters in our colder rooms. But are they safe? Well, yes and no.
Finding a good one
Space heaters today are much safer than they used to be. But I still recommend investing in a space heater that turns off when it tips over. If you have space heaters already, make sure that it’s one of the features. If not, you might want to think about replacing it.
Let it stand alone
You want to make sure that you keep space heaters out away from walls, curtains and anything else that could potentially make contact. They get really hot and left for too long could cause a fire.
Use separate outlets
Make sure you’re not plugging too many heaters into the same outlet or extension cord. And check on your space heater every once in awhile to assure it’s running properly.
Consider your options
