Backing Up Your Sump Pump

Sump pumps run on electricity and, as we all well know, fall and early winter are prime time for losing power. For some of us, that means our sump pumps aren’t going to operate properly to get water out of our basements.
You have two choices when it comes to back-up systems: battery powered and water powered. At MoreVent, we recommend the water powered systems, if you’re running on city water.
We prefer water powered because most clients forget about their battery back-up system after installation. That battery has a life expectancy. At some point, it will no longer hold charge and you may find yourself out of luck during a power outage.
As long as you have city water, we recommend a water powered back-up system. It’s pretty much worry-free. All you have to do is check it once every couple months to make sure there’s debris surrounding it. Outside of that, it’s a very cost effective, long-term, functional back-up system.
It’s imperative you have something to back-up your sump pump, in the event of a power outage this season. You don’t want to have to worry about water backing up in your basement.
If you don’t already have one in place, give us a call. We’ll send a plumber out to your home to see what we can do to help make sure you’re prepared for a loss of electricity.
